Our “VLOAT”

Circular Floating Districts has designed 4 types of islands, the Water Block, the Water Court, the Water Community and the Water Villas.

Offshore pontoons (the so-called North Sea Pontoons) and dry docks are used as a basis. This creates a maritime character and the base of the plan is in this way 100% circular and reusable. Our projects are built in a modular way at a shipyard and are then moved to a temporary or permanent location.

We use existing infrastructure to build and the prefabricated housing modules are delivered directly from a factory. An efficient and sustainable construction process that ensures speed and affordability.

RESIDENTIAL WATERBLOCK & WATER COURT

Through our Water Block and Water Court designs, we are able to densify the city in an innovative way to densify and introduce a new living environment. By combining the two different designs we can develop an area into a complete new urban water district. In the basis we use a so-called North Sea Pontoon. On this we build a city block or a series of 4 court houses.

WATER

COMMUNITY

Living environments for living with family, friends or a residential group are sources of inspiration for the concept.

We use a former dry dock as a basis. With one side opened this creates a collective entrance with a common outdoor area.

WATER VILLA

The Water Villa concept provides the ultimate vacation feeling on the water. The compact shape of the river pontoon makes it possible to move the villa across all inland waterways. This allows the villa to be in Groningen in the summer and in Maastricht in the winter for example.

Energy positive

Our projects are circular, self-sufficient and climate proof. Living on one of our islands gives new energy and a sense of freedom. Especially in the metropolitan regions. We have the ambition to use the Full Living certification of the "Living Building Challenge" as a basis for all our projects.

In order to build truly future-proof, the bar must be set higher than the standard of BENG or ENG. (Nearly Energy Neutral Building / Energy Neutral Building). By using a high level of certification, we make "energy positive" measurable. In every entrance area and home, residents are informed about the performance of the home and environment.

In the design, construction and use phases, circular development and realization is the explicit starting point.

  • We develop circular projects. By building on a base of existing pontoons and dry docks. All housing units are modular and remountable.

  • All homes will be developed in a fully self-sufficient manner by using the latest technologies. For the generation of energy, the (re)use of (rain) water, the separation of waste and the storage of produced CO2.

  • By living on a pontoon or a dry dock, we are able to be flexible

in where we moor. When rising sea levels require relocation, we move with urban developments.

We can also move with new area developments. When former harbor basins are redeveloped, we can "move along" in area development by temporarily occupying a place.

  • Not only is energy-positive living a technical story. Our islands bring with them a living climate that ensures physical and mental well-being.

People live in freedom, the weather on an island is inspiring every day, it is peaceful. Rippling water, caressing wind. scription
